Things I learned in Spain

MTV EspaƱa, offered as a free service on a broadcast channel for only a few hours each day, hasn't become the music-less, reality based, star idoling 24 hour commercial as it has in the States. It is similar to M2, but still, its different, one reason being geography. While still playing a lot more of the western style music than only local Spanish artists, the groups represented a European slant, and even a bit of a fringey slant at that.

Watching this channel, it was like a breath of fresh air and hot new music. I discovered that the video really can be an art form, enhancing the songs that I might not have considered at all otherwise. I started taking notes. Now I kick myself for not taking enough.

Just a few I liked:
Dirty Vegas - Days Go By. You might have heard this song in a car commercial or maybe at the discotec, but the video creates a very engaging and moving story. I also like videos where there is dialog over the music.

Electric Six - Gay Bar. The only clip I could find of this has terrible audio quality and they've even bleeped out the words "War.... Nuclear War," but the tune is jammin' fun and the video is hilarious as well. I think they're from Detroit, but don't know much else. I sent this video to a couple people a while back

Benny Benassi - Satisfaction. A remake of a remake, with a fantastic beat. This song was featured briefly in the movie Chasing Liberty (with Mandy Moore), during the Love Parade scene that I think was set in Prague. The video is a lot different than that. While I feel piggish for enjoying this clip, it IS informative. And also enhances the song.

I'll look for more to post shortly. Enjoy.
