Tigerstyle with Kaka Bhania

What stood out to me while spending time in Europe is how the Punjabi/Bhangra sound had really become popularized, no song more so than Panjabi MC's Mundian To Bach Ke (known as "Knight Rider Bhangra"), which I'd hear in some clubs being played four or five times in a night. That seems to be the only song of its type to make its way across the seas to the US, stuffed into a bottle with Jay-Z's return address on it, and most of the ink on the note too runny to read the way it was meant to be.
The basic recipe of the style is mixing East with West, as is the case of Tigerstyle's Nachna Onda Nei (featuring Kaka Bhania). A familiar and not so atypical mix of Billy Jean, Ice Ice Baby, and that song Coolio used for Fantastic Voyage lay out a track that you would tap your foot to while headed into town on a Friday night. But its the vocals that really make the magic happen. I'm not really sure how to describe or define the punjabi singing style--an aural smile will be playing through your speakers as you hear the enchantingly fun melody that frosts the cake.
In addition to Tigerstyle and Panjabi MC, State of Bengal has remixed some brilliant tracks that are worth looking up too.

Ah that is right I remember now. For some reason that song never seemed to be as mainstream of a hit as it should have been. The longest part of writing that review was just trying to remember what the song was that Coolio had done.
nice post! i always credit you as the dude who turned me on to the supreme majesty of knight rider bhangra literally years before it was on US radio. props for that, prop-dogg.
