frisco to maine

okay, i'm not going to lie, i made this post because the siouxie pic at the top of the page was freaking me the hell out. nuff said.

this is strictly dedicated to the man tim who put me up on ATL--not THE ATL, but Above The Law, west coast gangsta rappers once signed to Ruthless "I'm not really down with Jerry Heller" Records. i'm sure tim prefers Livin' Like Hustlers, but Black Mafia Life to me was my favorite LP. tremendous mix of breaks and g'ed out synth lines that hit so hard (dre produced the first EP, but BML was all ATL). and the lyrics? crazy. cold187um & the crew speaks on sex, violence, and economics something fierce. Commin' Up was one of my favorites...combining the classic synthetic substitution break with delayed vocals and a creepy ass live piano accompaniment. the song clocks in at over 5 minutes, but i could listen to this track for days on end.

I am a big ATL fan. No doubt about that. My favorites on this album are "Pimp Clinic" (Buelah Blowhound will second that!!!), VSOP, the one with MC Ren (particularly the little skit and the opening) and the song where they keep saying "Let the Hoes Sing!" But my all time favorite ATL song is "Play Your Game" from the Ep that was released between Living Like Hustler's and Black Mafia Life. I think Cold 187'um is the most underated producer in Hip Hop history. He also produced "Real M*therF*ckin G's" for Eazy-E!!
